Option 2: Supervised online independent study (BYU/SOLIS)
For students who need to take classes not offered in Option 1 above, we are again offering our highly successful Supervised Online Independent Study program (SOLIS). We have partnered with Brigham Young University (BYU) to make fully accredited online classes available to students in a supervised, academic environment. In this program, students take interactive classes online in our computer equipped study center.
In this supervised environment (with access only to coursework), students are required to attend a minimum number of hours in the computer center each week. Students will have access to the online study center four hours each day. Morning students have access from 8 a.m. to noon. Afternoon students have access from noon to 4 p.m. Student progress is actively tracked by the supervisor and the summer school principal to assure progress and course completion by the end of the summer session. A written final exam is taken here at the school in conjunction with any classes taken for credit.
Classes available online include:
Art
Computer Science
Language, including French, German, Japanese, Latin and Russian
Online classes offer students and their families a degree of flexibility in scheduling a student’s time. Scheduling arrangements can be made with the BYU/SOLIS program director prior to the start of course work.
NOTE: SJND students may not take BYU/SOLIS classes if equivalent classes are being offered as traditional classroom courses during the summer session.
Fee for morning or afternoon access /supervision /testing fee: $160
Note that access fee for the online study center is in addition to the course fee charged by BYU. 2009 course fees are typically $121. For more information on classes offered, registration procedures, and fees, click here.
