A Comprehensive Program
Saint Joseph Notre Dame provides a comprehensive physical education program for all of its students as well as an interscholastic athletics program. All students are encouraged to participate in one or more of the sports teams that are offered. The athletics program is designed to provide optimum opportunities for all students to integrate physical development with the academic, religious, and social values of SJND High School and add to a sense of school spirit and identity.
A key component of the athletics program is to develop transferable skills and attitudes within an ethical context that will contribute to success in a variety of endeavors in college and life. Sixty percent of the students participate in one or more sports.
The athletics program has been designed to:
Increase students’ awareness of the condition and development of their bodies
Give them an opportunity to gain recognition
Provide an opportunity for peer approval and increased self-esteem
Nurture a sense of group participation and cooperation
Teach self-discipline, goal-setting, tenacity, and hard work
Nurture a spirit of good sportsmanship
Develop respect and tolerance for the abilities and opinions of others
SJND is a member of the Bay Shore Athletic League (BSAL), North Coast Section (NCS), and California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
